Views upstream from the house [2008] (36)

Mzima Springs: Tsavo West National Park (13)
Mzima Springs in Tsavo West National Park is a must-see place to visit, if you ever find yourself in that part of the world. These natural springs, fed from the Chuylu Hills and the foothills of Kilimanjaro, with their clear cool water bubbling out of the lava-laden soil, not only provide all the water for Kenya's second largest city, Mombasa (150 miles away), but also sustain many a thirsty beast, and many an aquatic inhabitant - from the large pod of resident hippos to the crocodiles and fish that you can watch from the underwater viewing tank – if you’re lucky you’ll see a hippo lumbering by underwater too...
We stayed at the Kilaguni Serena Lodge in Tsavo West during the Tsavo Elephant Count, and while the aircraft and crews were away counting, I spent some time wandering around Mzima Springs with my camera.
