Hot Hippos (22 October 2007)
We watched a group of crocodiles devouring a buffalo carcass just below 'Hippo Bend', where a pod of 18 or more hippos spend the day in the dry season. They congregate there in some of the only remaining deep water in the river. It was a scorchingly hot day, and the hippos, seen here at midday, were lying low in the water to keep out of the sun. -

Late Evening Hippos (23 October 2007)
