No-one Likes our Birdbath - still no birds - 22 October 2007
We built a birdbath and bird table up on our balcony on 15th October 2007 - it's a week now, and still no birds have discovered it...or dare come near it...will they ever? We even planted a little Yellow Fever Tree (acacia) next to it, to give them somewhere to perch, but they don't care... -
Bulbuls on Banana - Feeding Frenzy! 22 October 2007
Up until now, I have been feeding the birds on the ground outside the kitchen window. As soon as they start using the birdbath, I'll stop feeding them outside. (I did stop feeding them outside as soon as the bird table was built, but then I started feeling sorry for them, and started putting food out again...) These Yellow Vented Bulbuls go crazy for bananas. -
Bulbuls & Female Village Weaver tucking in - 22 October 2007
A female Village Weaver (also known as a Black Headed Weaver) braved the Bulbul mob to get a couple of mouthfuls. The Weavers are not shy - they're always around and are building their nests up above our staff houses. (More pictures of that later.) -

Little Swift in the eaves (24 Oct 07)
The Little Swifts seem intent on building their nests under the eaves of the palm-thatch "eye-brows" on the house. You can see one here sheepishly looking out at me from its favoured spot. More news from this day... -
