22nd October 2008 : Red Dawn brings no rain

This morning I got up before dawn to make my husband a cup of tea before he set off on the long drive to Nairobi (how nice of me is that?!). As always when I do drag myself out of bed at this hour of the morning I inevitably wonder why I don't do it every day...the air is cool and fresh, and the dawn over the Yatta Plateau and the river is always breathtaking...
Beautiful as the dawn may have been, it did not bring the rain today...Look how thin our poor impalas are, with their protruding ribs and sharp hip bones - and they're the lucky ones who live near the river where at least there is some green vegetation to be had.
The river did rise today, evidence of heavy rain upcountry, but still no sign of any here. The rising water made the impala look twice, and eventually bound away...
