19th October 2008 : Slim and now Jim too
You remember Slim, don't you? She (as it turns out) is the Black-tipped Mongoose who comes daily for a treat or two outside the kitchen. Black-tipped Mongooses are also known as Slender Mongooses, so that's how the name Slim came about - it seemed apt on two accounts: the fact she is slim and in deference to her species.
Slim, our lovely (rather shy) Black-tipped Mongoose
Well, the fact is we never really knew whether Slim was a male or female, but the other day (the 18th September, to be exact), she turned up with "a significant other"...now this new arrival was much bulkier than Slim and had quite a different look in its eye - rather fearsome, I'd even venture to say, especially for such a small creature!
The rather fearsome-looking new arrival...
...much heavier and bigger-bodied than the delicate Slim...
It didn't take much to deduce that here was a male, with dubious intentions towards our lovely Slim! Of course, in truth, we are delighted and we named him Jim...and we are hoping for some little ones to appear before too long...in the meantime, we have an extra mouth to feed as Slim and Jim often turn up asking for food together, amidst more than a little domestic rowing and growling...it seems love does not overcome greed for kitchen left-overs!
